Bhubaneswar, known as the ‘temple city of India’ is one of the most culturally effervescent cities in India. The capital city of Odisha has a long history of over 3,000 years is now a sprawling metropolis that is ably preserving its traditional legacy on one hand and also transforming itself with the modern times on the other. Bhubaneswar is home to some of the India’s finest temples including the Lingaraj Temple and Mukteswar Temple.

Nearby places of interest include the sacred pilgrimage town of Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath, the pristine sea-side village of Gopalpur and an ancient cave complex. Lingaraj Temple (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Lingaraj Temple is the oldest temple in the capital Bhubaneswar and one of the 12 famous non-Jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva.  This temple is one of the most important places in the city of Bhubaneswar and one of the major tourist attractions in the state.  Here the Shiva Lingam is worshiped as both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

ANANT – VASUDEVA TEMPLE(Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Located on the eastern bank of the magnificent Bindu Sarovar Lake, the 13th-century temple is one of the few notable Vishnu seats in Bhubaneswar.  It includes statues of Krishna, Balarama, and Subhadra.

BINDU SAROVAR (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Bindu Sarovar is one of the most auspicious lakes situated near the Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar.  During the Ashokastami festival, the surrounding lake turns into a hub of religious activity as the deity of the Lingaraj temple is taken to Bindu Sorovar followed by a huge procession.

MUSEUM OF TRIBAL ART AND ARTIFACTS (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

The Tribal Museum, also known as Tribal Art and Artifacts, located at Gopabandhu Nagar near CRP Square, provides comprehensive information about the tribal life and culture of Odisha.  Sometimes referred to as the Tribal Research Institute Museum (Museum of Man), it is basically a research center that exposes more than sixty different tribal groups of Odisha, their lifestyles, handicrafts, musical instruments, songs, dances and festivals giving due recognition to the ingenious tribal excellence.

REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

The Regional Science Center of Bhubaneswar is situated on a sprawling landscape of eight acres It has 84 interactive exhibits that help people understand and appreciate science and its role locally and globally.  Tourists can see exotic plants and learn about the underlying principles of motion, from the molecular level to the motion of the planets, or come face-to-face with the three-dimensional shapes of dinosaurs.

STATE HANDICRAFT MUSEUM (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

First-of-its-kind in the entire Eastern region of the country, the museum is divided into two blocks based on handloom and handicraft. Visitors could see theme-based galleries of items. The museum has a workshop area and a beautiful open-air amphitheater.

UDAYAGIRI AND KHADAGIRI CAVES (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Udayagiri and Khadgiri Caves are glorious components of Odisha tourism, located about 10 km east of Bhubaneswar.  There are 18 caves in Udayagiri and 15 caves in Khadagiri as residential retreats for Jain ascetics.  Partly natural and partly artificial, the caves are famous for their exquisite sculptures and reliefs and Brahmi inscriptions.

DHAULI SHANTI STUPA (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Dhauli is located on the banks of river Daya, where the historic Battle of Kalinga was fought in 261 B.C., where after the war Ashoka embraced Buddhism. It is famous for its pristine white Buddhist Stupa, dotted with rock edicts inscribed with the sermons of Lord Buddha.

NANDAN KANAN ZOOLOGICAL & BOTANICAL PARK (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

The park is home to several exotic species of animals, birds, and especially the ‘White Tigers’. Spread over 3,200 sq metres, the Butterfly Park in the Botanical Garden is an open garden and has at least 54 species of butterflies. A water stream, mud pool, and lily pond have been created and maintained to give a proper environment to these beautiful creatures.

REGIONAL MUSEUM (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Natural history of the Regional Museum of Bhubaneswar is a major attraction for nature lovers and general tourists  The museum exhibits the flora, fauna and living geology of Odisha, North Eastern region and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.  The star attraction of the museum is the giant skeleton of a baleen whale that draws the attention of visitors.

ODISHA STATE MUSEUM (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

The museum near Kalpana Square displays the best of Odisha’s archaeological remains and treasures in its various galleries. It has a wonderful collection of Buddhist and Jain sculptures, copper plates, coins and donative inscriptions from ancient and medieval Kalinga.

It has a place of pride for traditional and folk musical instruments, heavy jewelry, ancient weapons, tools, and some rare photographs. The major highlights of the museum are the rare palm-leaf manuscripts and a collection of antique paintings.

PATHANI SAMANTA PLANETARIUM (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

Pathani Samanta Planetarium is a planetarium in the city of Bhubaneswar in India named after astronomer Pathani Samanta. It was founded to create awareness about astronomy. It carries on activities like night sky viewing, audio-visual programs, and poster shows. It also displays various astronomical devices.

Spread across a 4-acre complex, the planetarium is named after the illustrious astronomer of Odisha. It features programs related to astronomy in a domed-shaped air-conditioned auditorium. The planetarium is near Acharya Vihar Square, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

RAJARANI TEMPLE (Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India):-

The 1100 century temple is perhaps the most famous temple in Bhubaneswar The temple derives its name from the remarkable red and gold sandstone, locally known as Rajarani that was used to construct it.  The unique thing about this amazing temple is the absence of a presiding deity.
